I am an artist living and working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen peoples. I am deeply grateful to the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose relationships with the land continue to this day.
I started making art again after having children as a way to manage my increasing anxiety over climate change, and ecological disasters. My work tends to blend vibrant, happy colours with images of plants and animals. In some cases, my work expresses my love for the natural world and the joy that playing with colours and gardening brings me. In other cases, my work relates to specific natural disasters both small and large.
Most of my work is large scale abstract paintings, with bright colours and line drawings. I like to play around with sketching, block printing, and all sorts of other crafts and arts.
I have shown my work at the Moss St. Paint-In, the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub, and the Southern Peninsula Arts and Crafts Collective Spring Show.
Check out my print shop and my originals here. You can also find me on instagram where I post about my work, and what it’s like to paint and make art as a mother.
Thank you, Heather
