My work on this painting started almost 3 years ago when I asked my husband to pick up a canvass for me on his way home from work. He asked me for a size and I just said “big” so he came home with a painting almost as tall as I am. It was slightly intimidating and came at a time when my technique and focus was shifting. Many of my paintings have just over a dozen layers, but this one probably has somewhere between 30-40. It’s had one wolf, then two, then one again, and then none. It has had a darker colour palette, and then a lighter one, then I put it in a corner out of frustration. Months later, I returned to it after trying a new technique out on some other paintings and I splashed colours across the middle of the painting. Finally it clicked: the wave appeared. Later that week, I saw a tiny bouquet of deep coloured anemones at the grocery store and grabbed them as reference.

So here it is, one of the first paintings in my Flora Series, and the one that really set me off down the path of playing with flowers.
