In 2017 and 2018, British Columbia was engulfed by back to back unprecedented wildfire seasons. The smoke was so thick and it travelled so far that we couldn’t see the sky for days on Vancouver Island. These massive fires changed the landscape of the province.
Smaller, more managed fires have been used for millennia to manage the ecosystems in our province. In some cases, seeds need fire to germinate properly. Fire doesn’t have to be a devastating force for our province. It can be a valuable tool to help manage our ecosystems.
